Why a price up front is difficult

Custom software is not a product off a shelf. The cost depends on what it has to do, how much it has to talk to other systems and how high the demands are for security and reliability. Two projects that look the same from the outside can therefore differ considerably.

What mainly determines the cost

  • Scope. How many processes does it touch? A well-defined flow is considerably smaller than a complete platform.
  • Connections. Every system that has to take part adds work.
  • Security and compliance requirements. If you work with sensitive data, more care is needed.
  • How clear the process is. A clear process builds faster than a process that still has to be invented along the way.

How to avoid surprises

Start small. A first working version of a well-defined process gives you, within weeks, insight into what something really costs and delivers, instead of a quote for a year-long project whose outcome nobody knows. That way you stay in control of your spending.

What you get back

Put the cost next to what the current inconvenience already costs you in time and errors. You pay that bill too, just less visibly and again every month.
